Professor Beach has pioneered diverse studies focusing on the interactional organization 

of everyday conversation and institutional involvements. He is engaged in ongoing studies 

focusing on how family members,  physicians,  and patients 

communicate about a wide variety of illness dilemmas 

(e.g., bulimia, obesity, chest pain, surgical problems, cancer diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis).
